Life@Kaplan: Student Residences in the USA

Most Kaplan schools offer students the choice between home-stays with local families or student residences. Our residences are ideal for students hoping for a bit more independence, and vary slightly between schools. Kaplan's student residences in the USA offer a number of options.

A single room in a residence provides the most independence and privacy, or, for a more social experience, stay with other students in a multi-bed accommodation.

We determine room-mates based on gender and language, ensuring that English is the common language in the room. This way, you’re guaranteed to practice as much as possible. Below, find examples of what your accommodation might be like in our New York and Los Angeles locations!

New York

Our Empire State Building, Midtown, and SoHo schools in New York are serviced by three different student residences, each no more than 40 minutes from all 3 New York locations, and generally much closer.

Our modern Upper East 1760 residence is just minutes away from Central Park and Museum Mile. Students here live in twin rooms with en suite bathrooms. Each student is given a bed, dresser, and wardrobe, and shares a flat screen TV, microwave, and refrigerator with his or her room-mate. Students prepare their own meals, and have access to a large, brand new kitchen, along with a 24-hour gym, games room, and quiet study area:

The New Yorker residence is set in the heart of Manhattan between Times Square and Madison Square Garden. Students choose between single or twin rooms, and can choose to prepare their own meals or eat at the dormitory’s 24-hour diner at a discounted rate. Students have access to a gym and comfortable common room ideal for socializing.

Kopling House is an all-male residence on the Upper East Side with single-occupancy rooms and 5 meals offered a week. Students have access to a common area with TV, a library, a dining room, and even a piano that can be used on request.

Los Angeles

Students at our Whittier College school can stay in the Campbell Hall Residence on the College’s campus, a short walk from uptown Whittier, in single or multi-occupancy rooms. Students are provided a 19-meal plan and can get snacks in between meals from the Campus Center. Rooms include a bed, desk, chair, dresser, and closet for each student, as well as access to two student lounges.

Students studying through our Westwood school live in a more traditional apartment setting in the Westwood Apartments, in either single or twin bedrooms. These fully furnished, centrally-located apartments each have two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a spacious living room, and fully equipped kitchen for students to do their own cooking. Each is within a 10- to 25-minute walk or 10-minute bus ride from school.

Students at our Irvine Valley school stay in the comfortable Candlewood Apartments only 1.7 miles away, near the Irvine Spectrum entertainment center with its movie theaters, restaurants, and shopping. These furnished studio apartments include queen-sized beds, large reclining chairs, oversized workspaces, fully equipped kitchens, private bathroom, and free laundry facilities.
